Giving Back to What’s Important

Giving Back to What’s Important

Through the years, Lowell Rausch has kept Ohio University close to his heart. He has expressed this special connection by establishing a revocable trust in his estate plans. He feels it is a great way to create a meaningful and lasting legacy.

Additionally, people who choose to establish a revocable trust also have the advantage of designating how their contribution will be used. Lowell has decided that his contribution will create an endowed scholarship in the College of Business, the Lowell L. Rausch Scholarship.
Lowell likes the fact that the revocable trust will enable his scholarship to be endowed, but he did not want to wait until his estate initiated this generous gift. He wanted to be able to see the students receive the funding, so he chose to contribute annually to his scholarship and to the College of Business. This has helped him gain the satisfaction of knowing he is helping deserving students now.
Lowell finds that his charitable giving allows him to remain close with the institution that has given him much pride and joy throughout his life. He enjoys hearing from the University through the different publications he receives and is happy to share his story to encourage others to give back.
During his time at Ohio University, Lowell was able to gain valuable perspectives while interacting with other students who came from different regions and brought with them varying points of view. It helped him appreciate everyone’s right to voice his or her opinion. He specifically chose to support his alma mater because of the life experiences and instruction that he found at Ohio University. He feels that he owes OHIO his philanthropy. It brings him the utmost satisfaction knowing he has assisted many students in earning a higher education that would not have been possible without his aid.
Lowell’s outlook in giving is choosing charities that have had great impact on his life as well as to organizations that demonstrate understanding and compassion towards others.
Lowell chose to establish a revocable trust because it allowed him to create an estate plan that ensured his intended goals would be met. As he sees it, a benefit of this gift is that once a trust is established it can be written in a meaningful way and it can be funded as time passes.
Lowell also liked that a revocable trust allows him to name a variety of beneficiaries, like the rural farm community where he was born, Union County, Ohio. He is very proud of his upbringing and he demonstrates this by his continued support to this community and by encouraging students from Union County to attend Ohio University. The Lowell L. Rausch Scholarship provides special consideration to students coming from Union County. He hopes that he will be able to help students in this community and others reap the benefits a quality college education provides.
